Occurring across select dates through August (yes August), September and October, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of the most popular events at Magic Kingdom.

Unlike Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, it is rare for guests to purchase tickets for more than one night at the event. With that in mind we wanted to share some of our top tips for getting the most out of the event, after all you only have until midnight to enjoy the fun!

1) Go to the Party in Costume

So this first tip might sound like an obvious one but we went to the party several times before dressing up in full costume and can confirm that you will get a much better experience from attending dressed as your favourite Disney character. Though in previous years we attended wearing our best halloween t-shirts, going in full character made such a difference and we got a lot more interaction from cast members as a result.

Also putting it out there, we got a lot more candy through dressing up than we did from not dressing up. Here is a picture of Ryan dressed as his favourite Disney character, Stitch!

2) Save Trick or Treating Until Later

Though it is incredibly tempting to run around the park visiting all the candy stops within the first hour or two of the party starting, you will do well from waiting until after HalloWishes has finished. The park empties out drastically after the fireworks end which means that the candy stops suddenly get significantly quieter.

Don’t worry about cast members running out of candy, this isn’t going to happen… ever. Even when some of the barrels start to run low on candy, cast members come in with a refresh and the process starts all over again!

In addition to this, we have found that cast members tend to get a bit more generous with the candy given when queues are quieter so it is worth waiting until late if you plan on staying in the park until late.

3) Ride Some of the Attractions

Pirates of the Caribbean exterior

Though it can be tempting to skip all of the attractions entirely given everything else that is going on at MNSSHP, don’t! The attractions that are open at the park are likely to be the quietest you will see them during your trip, there is hardly ever a wait for rides during the party.

In addition to this, in 2018 Disney have added additional elements to key attractions throughout the park. This includes a new soundtrack and special effects on Space Mountain and The Mad Tea Party alongside real actors portraying the pirates on Pirates of the Caribbean!

4) Arrive Before the Party Begins

Though this sounds like an obvious one, it is always good to get to Magic Kingdom way in advance of the party starting. Don’t worry about getting your wristbands for the start of the party, these can be collected at locations throughout the park closer to the start of the party.

The reason we say to get there a little earlier is that the park tends to clear out a little in the afternoon as guests know that they can’t stay into the evening. You should be able to fit in a few rides before the party even begins, meaning you can spend more time in the evening collecting candy and meeting characters.

5) Don’t Miss HalloWishes

Those that have seen Wishes (before it was changed to Happily Ever After) may assume that HalloWishes is a simple Halloween overlay of the classic nighttime show. Well you’d be very wrong in that assumption.

HalloWishes is a fantastic fireworks show with a spooky soundtrack featuring music from The Haunted Mansion, The Nightmare Before Christmas and many other songs featuring some of Disney’s greatest villains.

6) Make Time for Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

Though Hocus Pocus may have skipped many people when the movie was first released over 25 years ago (yeah I feel old as well), the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular is a must watch. Not only does the show feature all three of the Sanderson Sisters but it also features some of Disney’s top villains that include Oogie Boogie, Maleficent, The Evil Queen, Hades, Cruella De Vil, Jafar, Captain Hook and Dr. Facilier. This is the place to be to see all of these villains in the same place.

Also, if you are like me and love Hocus Pocus you will be pleased to hear that they perform a fantastic live rendition of I Put a Spell on You. Here’s the video for reference if you haven’t seen the movie:

7) Watch the Second Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade

Though it is tempting to rush and watch the first performance of Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween parade, this is always the busiest and you will end up having to hang around for much longer if you want a good spot.

As mentioned earlier, guests will usually go home after watching HalloWishes, resulting in the second performance of the parade being a lot quieter. The one exception to this rule is the weather, if you think there is a chance of rain as the evening goes on, make sure you watch the first showing. The Headless Horseman will not come out unless the weather is perfect and trust us, it’s one of the best moments of the entire parade.

8) Try Some of the Spooky Snacks

While there are Halloween themed snacks available across the Walt Disney World resort during the entirety of the spooky season, the best snacks come out exclusively during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom.

Snacks that have been featured in past parties include a pumpkin cheesecake, Hades nachos and candy corn milkshake. Take a look at some of these incredible treats below. Note that some of the treats featured below were available outside of party hours.
