Disney announced late yesterday that they were committed to donate $2.5 million to aid those impacted by Hurricane Irma.

CEO Bob Iger had this to say on the donation:

We’re donating $2.5 million to support relief and recovery efforts in response to Hurricane Irma. This is in addition to nearly $16 million we raised after Hurricane Harvey to help ensure storm victims have the support needed to recover and rebuild.

Disney are no strangers to the damage caused by Irma.

The resort suffered quite a bit of minor damage during the storm that have resulted in several attractions unable to reopen until damage has been assessed in full and attractions restored. The Jungle Cruise in particular is rumored to be down for at least a week.

In addition to the donation, all eligible donations from Disney employees to qualified organisations involved in the relief efforts are being matched dollar dollar by the company.
