Today it was announced that Apollo 13 actor Gary Sinise would not be returning to Mission: Space at Epcot when it reopens on August 13th (this weekend). Gary has been at the helm since the attraction originally opened in 2003 and it is safe to say that many Disney fans are upset at the news.

Some (and I won’t say who) even said that they would never ride the attraction again at news of his removal which I think is a bit of an overreaction.

This means of course that a brand new celebrity is taking over as CAPCOM and it has been announced that Gina Torres (Firefly, Angel, 24) will be taking over when the attraction reopens on Sunday.

Though it may come as a surprise to many, we have known for a while now that the story is changing slightly and that due to the likelihood of new dialogue being required, a new celebrity may be chosen as CAPCOM.

Here’s hoping that the fans take to Gina as much as they have Lieutenant Dan Gary Sinise. Change is very rarely a bad thing at a Disney Park and we are looking forward to seeing what Gina brings to the attraction pre-show.
