Though it was originally Walt Disney World that had rumours surrounding increases in security, it would seem Disneyland are the first Stateside Disney Park to upgrade on their security measures.

Downtown Disney has now become a fully secure area where all guests must pass through both a bag check and a metal detector when entering from the Downtown Disney parking lot, Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian Hotel.

If guests are parking at the Mickey and Friends parking area then security screening occurs before boarding the tram to Disneyland. Checkpoints that were already in place, remain.

While this may seem a bit of a pain, remember that this has been introduced to protect the safety of guests. The setup in this way means that guests are free to travel between parks and Downtown Disney without the need for additional checks, a luxury that Walt Disney World simply isn’t going to have.
