Themed on the Jungle Cruise, Skipper Canteen is rumoured to be opening later this month and Disney have just revealed a whole lot more detail on what to expect from the new restaurant.

Firstly, the restaurant (as to be expected) will be a table service meal with prices for entrees thought to be on the cheaper side at around $15, desserts are set to come at around $8. The restaurant will be serving both lunch and dinner.

As with other recent restaurants (Be Our Guest being the most obvious), Disney are splitting the restaurant into several rooms, each with their own theming. The main dining area is known as the Mess Hall and then all other areas lead from the central area. One area is said to be hidden behind a bookcase which once served as a secret meeting room of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.

I love what Disney do with their storytelling and theming in their restaurants and it would seem the Skipper Canteen is to be no different. Expect to see a lot of nods to the Jungle Cruise throughout the restaurant, even the servers are dressed in exactly the same outfits as the Jungle Cruise skippers which is a really nice touch.

Skipper Canteen Food & Drink

While Disney hasn’t revealed the full menu just yet, we know that the menu is based on the rivers of the world with a bit more of a focus on African, Asian and South American food items.

Here are some of the confirmed dishes so far:

  • Char Sui Pork
  • Stir Fry
  • Steak with Yuca Fries
  • Falafel with a cucumber salsa
  • Pineapple coconut cake
  • Punchline Punch
  • Schweitzer Slushie

Both drinks are available in signature cups.

As mentioned earlier, no official opening date yet but Disney have said to expect to be able to offer walk-up reservations before month end so it will be soon!

I am really looking forward to seeing this restaurant in person and can’t wait to try out the food, the steak with yuca fries sounds awesome!
