Yesterday Alton Towers announced that the Smiler rollercoaster would reopen in 2016, deeming the accident that resulted in serious injuries as a “human error”. The accident caused a number of serious injuries in June including two women that needed legs amputated.

The accident was caused by a shutdown message that was misinterpreted by staff and the ride restarted as a result.

I ran a poll yesterday on Twitter asking whether or not people thought it was a good idea for the attraction to reopen or not.

With 723 responses the results were split directly down the middle with the public divided as to whether or not the ride should reopen:

There were also a number of people who commented on the poll who are featured below (many thanks to all those who contributed).
