A brand new exhibit is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom starting on January 29 that will dive into the extensive research and behind the scenes work that was done in order to make the movie happen.

Of course if research is the name of the game there is only one place in Animal Kingdom for it to be, Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

According to Disney, researchers took around 18 months to observe animals and their behaviours and part of that time was actually spent at Disney’s Animal Kingdom conducting the research.

Zootopia producer Clark Spencer had this to say on the research and sharing it with park guests:

Everything that we learned about animal behaviors, personalities and movement our artists incorporated into the world of Zootopia, and to now be able to share those discoveries and influences with the guests at the park is truly a full circle moment.

Zootopia opens in cinemas on March 4th (March 25th in the UK) but in the meantime at least you have the option of checking out the research in Disney’s Animal Kingdom or watching a preview of the movie at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
