Disney has announced some great news for dog owners. Starting on the 15th of October, Walt Disney World will be allowing guests to keep dogs in their hotel room at four selected resorts.

This pet privilege does come at a cost, with a per night, per room pet-cleaning fee being charged. The four dog friendly hotels, and their fees, are:

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort – $50 per room, per night
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort – $50 per room, per night
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort – $75 per room, per night
  • Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness resort – $50 per room, per night

Officially the above fees are to accommodate the additional cleaning required to the rooms. However, at check-in you’ll also receive a “Pluto’s Welcome Kit” which includes a mat, bowls, pet ID tag, plastic disposable bags, puppy pads and dog walking maps. Not to mention a special ‘do not disturb’ sign for your door to indicate that a pet is inside.

Each dog friendly room will allow a maximum of two dogs, and will have access to outdoor pet walkways as well as “pet relief areas”. All dogs are expected to be well behaved, leashed in public areas, and fully vaccinated.

I’m sure this news will come with a mixed response given not everyone is a dog lover. However given this has only been introduced to four resorts, and likely only a portion of rooms will be available at each hotel, it sounds like a good option to keep all tails wagging.
