Though you wouldn’t know it from looking at the website and our various social media profiles, Theme Park Trader was originally started through a conversation that Dan and I had about pins! With that in mind I thought it was time to share some of the incredible pins that we have collected over the years. The plan is to share detailed pictures of each pin, alongside all the information we can track down for each of them.

Enough of me rabbiting on (see what I did there?), lets begin the series with one of my favourite characters, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and a limited edition pin from 2017.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit 90th Anniversary – Box Lunches

  • Edition size – 3,750
  • Original price – $15.99
  • Original release – July 13th 2017

This pin was originally released both individually and in the 90th Anniversary Box Set at the D23 Expo in Anaheim in 2017 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This pin was purchased as an individual when the collection was released in Walt Disney World on July 27th 2017.

The pin itself is based on the classic Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon, Sky Scrappers where Ortensia turns up selling box lunches from a bicycle. The short was directed by Walt Disney himself, releasing on June 11 1928. In the short, Oswald is depicted working on a construction site.

The scene shown in the pin comes just after the short begins where Oswald has his lunch soaked by water (his own fault by the way), only for Ortensia to turn up selling lunches on her bicycle shortly afterwards. You can view the full short below:

I love how much of Mickey Mouse’s character came from Oswald, you can really tell in some of the early shorts before Disney sadly lost the rights to the character. Of course Disney got the rights back to Oswald in 2006, trading him with Universal for sportscaster Al Michaels (no I am not joking).

We are going to be releasing one of these pin closeups at least once a week but if you guys love these analysis then we can think about doing them more often. Let us know in the comments below what you think of this pin!
