Disney announced yesterday that Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: BREAKOUT would be opening on May 27 2017, kicking off Summer of Heroes at Disney’s California Adventure Park.
The May 27 opening date is certainly a lot sooner than I would have expected though it makes sense to tie everything together in this larger Summer of Heroes event.
Inaugural Summer of Heroes Details
Summer of Heroes also kicks off on May 27 and runs until September 10 at the park. Here is a rundown of what to expect in addition to the opening of the new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!
Star Lord will be on hand with a boombox to play classic tunes as he dances and encourages everyone to join in to show off their best moves.
Super Hero Encounters
Never before seen at a Disney Park, Groot will be available to meet guests! Alongside Groot, Captain America and Spider-Man will be available at select times throughout the day too!
I don’t know about anyone else but I am super excited to see Groot live in the flesh (or wood)!
Avengers Training Initiative
Black Widow and Hawkeye are going to be recruiting young cadets to see if they have what it takes to join the Avengers. Think of this as a Marvel version of Jedi Training Academy.
Black Widow Heroic Encounter
Black Widow will arrive throughout the day ahead of her meet and greet with guests on an armoured Avengers vehicle. This very much reminds me of how the heroes enter Marvel Super Hero Island at Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando.
Food & More
Disney will also be offering up themed merchandise, food and beverages during Summer of Heroes, more on these as soon as they become available.
