It would seem that plans are in place to close the Walt Disney World Speedway and use the location as additional parking for the Magic Kingdom Park.

This follows on the from the announcement in February that the Speedway would be closing to help improve the transportation around the Magic Kingdom Park. All of this really comes as a result of the New Fantasyland expansion which has not only brought more guests to the park but also allowed for more guests to be allowed into the park at any one time. The parking lot as a result has sometimes reached capacity before even the park has, meaning that for guests that park onsite, this expansion cannot come soon enough.

You can find the full plans here.

It will be a shame to see the Walt Disney World Speedway close, it has been open since November 28, 1995 and has brought many professional races and driving experiences to the Disney World property. However after a series of accidents it would seem Disney have deemed it no longer relevant to keep open.

Of course for people that stay on property and utilise the Disney Transportation, this won’t be making any difference at all as the Disney buses simply take guests directly to the front entrance of the park.

So are you a guest that tends to park in the parking lot, are you pleased with the proposed expansion or are you unhappy that the Walt Disney World Speedway closing? Let us know in the comments!
