With Universal just announcing that Ghostbusters were joining an already fantastic lineup for this years Halloween Horror Nights event in Orlando. I am posing the question as a relative newbie to the event, is this going to be the best year ever?

Keep in mind this is just my opinion and that this year’s event will only be my second! Here are a few reasons why I am excited to attend:

The 80s Setting

Last years 80s feel was amazing for a first-timer like me. The 80s is one of my favourite time periods for music, film and all things geek. Though I was scared out of my mind, I felt oddly at home with the 80s, a return to that era is only good news given 2019 is only my second time to the event and will be the first time for my wife visiting!

The Return of Stranger Things

The kids of Hawkins are back for 2019 and it’s the announcement of Stranger Things for 2018 that finally tipped me over the edge and made be visit last year. I am beyond excited to see one of my favourite TV shows reimagined as another Horror House this year, with the focus this time on season 2 (and a bit of the excellent season 3).

Who You Gonna Call?

Of course, I had to mention the most recent house announcement, Ghostbusters. Everything about this announcement is a win in my book. Universal decided to choose the original 1984 movie alongside confirming that we will come face to face with Slimer, the all-power Gozer the Gozerian and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man!

The most surprising thing about this house is that we haven’t seen the Ghostbusters at the event before!

Original Houses For the Win

So enough with the IPs, if my experience from chatting to wonderful people in the community and of course visiting HHN last year has anything to go on, never underestimate the fantastic work the Universal team does with the original houses.

So far this year we have:

  • Yeti: Terror of the Yukon
  • Depths of Fear
  • Nightingales: Blood Pit

Out of the three announced so far, Depths of Fear is the one I am confident is going to scare me the most, having a bit of a fear of being underwater.

Special Food and Drink Offerings

Last year I only got to spend a single night at the event. While it was great to get an Express Pass to do every house, it did mean that the only thing I had food/drink wise was a standard beer! This year I can’t wait to try some of what makes the event so food, the speciality food and drinks, including the legendary pizza fries.

We Still Have Announcements to Come

If all of this isn’t enough, we still have more haunted houses, scare zones and surprises still to be announced!

What do you think of all the announcements so far, are you excited for HHN 29?
