Brady Macdonald recently wrote a great piece over on the LA Times that covered off what guests could likely see at the new AVATAR Land which is set to open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2017. Usually Brady’s articles are incredibly accurate on rumours which is why I thought it would be worth reporting on.

What we already know about AVATAR Land

The major attraction confirmed by Disney was one based on the flying Banshee scene from the first movie. The technology Disney are set to be using is very much based on the existing Soarin attraction but will apparently  be a much improved system. Considering the original Soarin in Disney’s California Adventure opened nearly 15 years ago I am looking forward to seeing what Disney can bring to this new attraction.

New Rumours Around AVATAR Land

The second attraction according to Brady Macdonald is:

A D-Ticket indoor boat ride similar to Pirates of the Caribbean will take riders on a river journey through the illuminated forest of Pandora.

This sounds like it could be a really fantastic experience, while I didn’t think the story of Avatar was particularly strong, the visuals and world of Pandora was incredible and it sounds like Disney are looking to bring this to life in this attraction.

Brady also goes on to say:

After dark, lighting effects will play a prominent role in Avatar Land, with LED-lighted sidewalks and illuminated plants that respond to the touch.

If Disney can deliver on some of these rumours the new AVATAR Land could be one of the most interesting lands of any theme park on the planet, the technology behind all of this simply sounds insane. On top of all of this there are rumours Disney are also working on a robotic Banshee that can fly above the land during the day.

All of this sounds awesome, but what do you think, is this what you were expecting from AVATAR Land?
