I have always found the SeaWorld story very sad as an avid lover of both animals and theme parks. While there is some truth in Blackfish, there is also a lot of lies from people that neither understand Orcas or how SeaWorld operates.

However, I do agree that putting Killer Whales into a show and forcing them to jump and splash guests most likely isn’t the best way to keep creatures in captivity and from 2017 the flagship park in San Diego will be stopping the shows for good.

Instead there will be a new theming for the whales that will aim to show them in their natural environment similar to how SeaWorld showcases other sea creatures in the park.

Joel Manby, SeaWorld’s chief executive, said he had listened to guests’ criticism of its Shamu stadium whale circus and it would end the “theatrical killer whale experience” in San Diego by the end of 2016.

The shows in the Orlando and San Antonio will continue.
