We are big fans of VR here at Theme Park Trader, certainly from what we own outside of theme parks with PSVR. No theme park attraction has quite got it right yet and Knott’s Berry Farm are looking to change that with the very first free roaming VR attraction. So what do they mean by free roaming?
VR Showdown in Ghost Town
Not the best of names but the concept sounds great as guests pop a VR headset on as battle commences against robot cowboys in a dystopian future version of Knott’s western town of Calico.
Here’s how Knott’s Berry Farm describe the experience:
Armed with state-of-the-art wireless virtual reality headsets and futuristic blasters, multiple players will compete against one another for the highest score and bragging rights, as part of this immersive adventure, while striving toward shared team goals. At the end of the VR competition, guests will be able to view and compare scores with their fellow opponents.
Just how Knott’s Berry Farm are allowing guests to freely roam around while also ridding VR of the wires usually necessary in order to play in such an environment has not been made clear. However, if they can pull this off they could set the bar high for VR attractions worldwide and as a huge gamer, could be the perfect attraction!
Good or bad, we don’t have long to wait as the attraction opens this April.
