It’s official, another one of Disney’s not so well kept secrets has now been announced, Frozen the musical will be coming to Broadway in 2018!

Music is going to covered off by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez who are of course the masters behind the music in the original film and while cast at this stage still hasn’t been announced, there are a number of people behind the scenes that have.

So far on the list we have:

  • Alex Timbers – Director
  • Peter Darling – Choreographer
  • Bob Crowley – Scenic and costume designer
  • Stephen Oremus – Music Supervisor
  • Natasha Katz – Aladdin
  • Peter Hylenski – Sound Designer

Quite a team there I am sure you will agree, all have plenty of experience with a lot of the guys working on the likes of Aladdin, Wicked, and Book of Mormon.

The real question that needs to be asked here… did we really need a Frozen Musical?

While I am a huge fan of the movie, I do feel that Disney is perhaps milking this franchise just a bit, certainly when it comes to the theme parks. Theme park dominance needs to be toned down just a little and Disney have already made some fans upset by removing Maelstrom in Walt Disney World and the Aladdin Musical at the Disneyland Resort.

However… I like the sound of another Disney musical on Broadway and the talent already announced for this project is more than enough to get me excited as to what Disney are going to be doing with this one. Let’s just hope it doesn’t mean that Lion King or Aladdin have to close!

What do you think of a Frozen musical, a winter wonderland or is it giving you more of a cold shoulder?
