Disneyland have announced a number of attractions that will be closing to make way for the new Star Wars land that will be starting construction in the very near future. Don’t panic too much as some of the closures are going to be temporary but there are some permanent closures on the horizon too.

Temporary attraction closures

Starting at the end of January 10th, all attractions that are in and around the Rivers of America and Disneyland Railroad will be closing for a number of months so that the groundwork can start on Star Wars land. Unfortunately no date has been given

Effective at the end of the operating day on January 10th, all attractions related to the Rivers of America and the Disneyland Railroad will close for a period of months (no exact date has been given for their return).

The attractions that will be closed on  temporary basis are:

  • Fantasmic
  • Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia
  • Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
  • Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes

As you can see, nothing major here (perhaps excluding Fantasmic) but still it is a shame to see any attraction close for what is expected to be quite a large period of time.

Permanent closures

Disney have also announced that there will be some attractions that are to close on a permanent basis. These are:

  • Big Thunder complex including the restaurant, petting zoo and jamboree

Disney have confirmed that the entrance to Star Wars Land is going to go right through the Big Thunder Ranch area so it makes sense that this area needs to go, especially given that there aren’t any major attractions in this area.

What do you think of the news that Disneyland will be seeing some lengthy temporary closures and some more permanent closure of some of its attractions to make way for Star Wars? Let us know in the comments.
