I am glad that despite all of the bad press hitting UK theme parks this year with the terrible accident that occurred at Alton Towers (more on that here) that new attractions are being announced and it is very rare that I get genuinely excited by a UK based attraction.

Derren Brown has just announced a partnership with Thorpe Park that will see a brand new type of attraction hit the park in March 2016, with construction already underway.

Those of you not aware of Derren Brown (US readers) he is a famous UK illusionist.

Here he is tricking a guy into thinking he is drunk:

The new attraction will showcase some of the skills that he shows in predicting and controlling human behaviour and will be 13 minutes in length!

The attraction is set to be the first “immersive psychological attraction” designed to “manipulate the human mind”.

Derek Brown had this to say on the new attraction:

“First and foremost it’s a theme park attraction, the psychological part of it is a layer to it but its ultimate reason for existing is to thrill.

So, it’s a theme park attraction that I’ve come up with over the last three years, working with the Thorpe Park guys trying to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

This new attraction is a major first for the industry, and I think it might be the future of theme parks.”

Some pretty big promises on delivering an attraction that could cement itself as not only being the first of its kind but also the future of theme parks.

There are over 1,000 specialists working on the attraction to meet the deadline for a March 2016 opening and if the attraction is a whopping 13 minutes it really does need to deliver on entertainment.

While I am skeptical of any UK attraction delivering anything revolutionary, I would gladly be proved wrong on this and I am really looking forward to seeing what Derren Brown and the team at Thorpe Park delivers with this new attraction.

What are your thoughts on this new attraction announcement?
